Northern Ireland’s achievement in getting through the group stage at Euro 2016 was celebrated in France and back home.

In spite of the 1-0 defeat to Germany, a 2-0 win for Turkey over the Czech Republic meant Northern Ireland were guaranteed to finish as one of the best four third-placed sides in the six groups.

Turkey were thanked, goalkeeper Michael McGovern was tipped for a big move after his stand-out show, and actress Bronagh Waugh made an almighty noise.

Here is a selection of Twitter reaction to Northern Ireland reaching the last 16:

Northern Irish boxing hero Carl Frampton (@RealCFrampton): “Straight out to celebrate with a kebab and a shave #Tur #NIR”

Snooker star Mark Allen (@pistol147): “Get in there!! Bring on the last 16!!! #GAWA”

Northern Ireland striker Kyle Lafferty (@LaffK): “If this guy @mcgov12 doesn’t get the move he deserves then footballs a funny old game. Deserves everything that’s about to come his way”

Actress Bronagh Waugh (@bronaghwaugh): “YESSSSSSS*!!! *screaming louder than #MegRyan in the deli ‘orgasm’ scene in #WhenHarryMetSally”

Snow Patrol singer Gary Lightbody (@garysnowpatrol): “We did it! We’re guaranteed a place in the last 16. Dreamland! Well done all the Norn Iron squad and staff. This is epic. So happy! Yeooo!”

Golf major winner Rory McIlroy (@McIlroyRory): “Last 16!!! #GAWA”
