FOOTBALL: Ballynure Old Boys topple Lisburn Distillery

In their first outing under new manager Ronnie Burns, Ballynure Old Boys recorded a shock win as they toppled Lisburn Distillery.

Gregg McFaul scored the only goal as several new signings were given their first run-out.

Burns said: “We deserved to be in front at half time, and then defended resolutely after the interval.”

Burns has been busy in the transfer market with Craig Todd, Ross Richardson, Aaron Finn, Jonah Nicholl and Craig Richardson and Pedro Delgado signing up.

Delgado has had Irish League experience with Dungannon Swifts, Carrick Rangers and Larne.

Asked how he managed to recruit such an experienced player, Burns explained: “I have known Pedro since my Irish League days, and although he commutes between Northern Ireland and America because of his work commitments, I have always kept in touch. Although he is 39, he gallops around the pitch like a 25-year-old, and when he is available he will be a great asset to Ballynure.”

On Saturday the visitors to UUJ grounds will be Amateur League outfit Dunmurry Rec.
