MOSSLEY FC came from 3-1 and a man down to provide one of Saturday’s shock results, knocking 1A side Immaculata FC out of the Border Regiment Cup with a 5-3 win at The Park.

“I thought it was just a matter of Immaculata closing the game down, but young Lee Graham and Jordan McCune were always running at them and were always a threat,” said Mossley boss Campbell Graham. “It was a brilliant result – and in extra-time, we looked the fitter team!”

Mac, admittedly, had gone to extra-time before seeing off Newington YC in the Steel and Sons during the week, and the 1A side were caught dozing after just five minutes; Kyle Harper nodding in a Gary McCord cross.

Mossley’s lead, however, lasted only five minutes and the home side failed to learn their lesson; they were caught again unwisely trying to spring the offside trap just before the break.

It looked to be all over for the Graham’s 1C side on 70 minutes when Immaculata were awarded a penalty with Mossley’s problems compounded by Jim Scott, their man involved in what they believed was an accidental collision, shown a straight red.

Mac tucked away the resultant spot-kick, but Mossley never gave up and were right back in the hunt on 80 minutes when Graham tucked away a neat pass from McCune.

Mossley went all out for the equaliser, although the Lower Falls side could have ended the debate but for a couple of crucial one-on-one saves from keeper Dwayne Jenkins.

Those heroics looked even more important four minutes from time when Graham, played in nicely by McCune, was sent tumbling inside the box. Out came the referee’s red card, as Graham kept his nerve from the spot.

And so on to extra-time, where Mossley looked the livelier, especially in the second session; inching ahead when McCune crossed for Graham to complete his hat-trick.

Mossley put the icing on the cake two minutes from the end of extra time, when Chris Proctor finished off a clever one-two with Graham.

Mossley FC: Jenkins – McCord, McAllister (Barton), Scott, Young – Crowe (Phillips), Harper, Proctor, Bell (McCune) – Andrews, Graham.

Mossley are back in league action on Saturday with a trip to The Billy Neill Centre to take on Donard Hospital (2 pm).
