Late Higgins strike secures three points

editorial image

An 84th-minute strike from skipper Ricky Higgins sealed maximum points for Ballyclare Comrades in their 2-0 win over Portstewart in Championship 2 on Saturday.

Following a blank first-half, full-back Craig Reid nosed the Reds in front. With new signing, Chris Getty, fitting in perfectly at the heart of the defence, the Comrades recorded a clean sheet.

Former Bangor striker Chris Shimmon was given a starting role up front to partner Higgins and made a very impressive debut.

Ballyclare Comrades: Flood; Reid, Getty, Doyle, Monteith; Agnew (Wilkinson 66), McAlea, Simms, Gray; Higgins (c), Shimmon. Subs not used: Earley, Brown, Buckley, Pierce.
