Reserves match called off

BALLYCLARE Comrades’ Reserves were unable to beat the adverse weather conditions at the weekend.

On Saturday morning manager Jonty Watson was still hopeful their Linda Welshman Memorial Cup round three clash with Ballysillan Swifts would get the green light at Threemilewater Park, but at lunchtime he was advised the pitch had failed to pass the referee’s inspection because it was waterlogged.

“Recent postponements have resulted in a backlog of fixtures building up, and with us being involved in three cup competitions, I hope that our title aspirations will not be derailed by having to play several games a week towards the end of the season,” he said.

“Last season we clinched the Junior League Division 1 title on the final day of the season, and with virtually the same team the lads would dearly love to be champions again.

“However, with five faces recruited to the senior squad during the January transfer window, we will probably be able to accommodate some fringe players from time to time and this will ease the demand on the players in our hectic programme.

“Hopefully the weather will improve so we will have either a fixture on Saturday afternoon,” he added.
