VIDEO SLIDESHOW: Rathfern’s Cup hopes up in smoke

RATHFERN Rangers’ Steel and Sons Cup hopes went up in smoke with Saturday’s 2-1 home defeat to Championship 2 side Chimney Corner.

Rathfern manager Bill Campbell told the Times: “We came out of it with more credit than them, given the level they’re at compared to us. And at the start, we were the team playing all the football.

“It was a hard-fought 2-1 for them. Our boys showed a lot of character and commitment.”

Rathfern roared ahead on 15 minutes courtesy of a fine strike by new recruit Gary Orr - his third goal in a week.

The Antrim side drew level just before the break, thanks to a thudding header and there was little between the sides in the second session until Corner got what turned out to be the winner, catching the Rangers on the break whilst they were temporarily down to 10 men, with Paul Montgomery off receiving treatment.
