Our weekly round-up of the East Antrim teams involved in the Ballymena and Provincial League.
Junior Division One: FC Whiteabbey came away from Desertmartin Swifts with a share of the spoils after a 2-2 draw. Jonny Montgomery put the visitors in front only for Desertmartin to go in 2-1 up at the break. Chris Loy landed the equaliser for Whiteabbey.
Woodlands made short work of Carnmoney FC as they blazed to a 5-0 away win. The Carrick side were two up at the interval thanks to a double from Alex Haggan. Ross Oliver added number three early in the second half before Paul Addis netted number four. Haggan wrapped things up on 65 minutes to claim his hat-trick.
Junior Division Two: Krag Albion were knocked off the top after they went down 3-1 at home to Wakehurst Strollers. After a scorless first half, Ryan Gregg gave the Ballymena men the lead before player-manager Andy Erwin doubled their advantage with 10 minutes to go. Dean Haggan’s 89th-minute strike gave Albion hope of rescuing something from the game but the visitors had the final say when Kyle Jackson made sure of all three points in the 90th minute. The Strollers are now a point ahead of Krag at the summit.
Ballynure Old Boys ‘B’ won’t be looking back on Saturday afternoon’s clash with Brantwood Reserves with fond memories. They lost 8-1 to the north Belfast outfit.
The same could be said of Ballyclare North End and Remo FC who lost 5-0 and 9-1 to Sport and Leisure Swifts and Newington YC II respectively.
Junior Division Three: Stuart Thompson scored Red Star’s only goal in their 5-1 defeat at home to Ballysillan Swifts Reserves.
Mountainview hosted Mallusk Athletic Reserves and drew 2-2. Craig Irvine had given the home side the edge just before the break only for Dean Miller to draw level. Mallusk then went in front mid-way through the second half thanks to Matt Morgan but Gareth Peoples landed a last-gasp leveller.
Rathcoole Reserves’ Ross Blair scored a hat-trick in his side’s 5-1 win over Carnlough Swifts. Ryan Price netted another two for Rathcoole with Jack Carland reponding for Carnlough.
A Jordan Rainey double gave Castle Star Reserves a 2-1 victory in the derby clash against 1st Carrickfergus OB. Steven Pottinger was on target for 1st Carrick.
Whitehead Rangers kept the heat on leaders Ballysillan Swifts Reserves thanks to a 4-1 victory over 3rd Ballyclare. Glenn Jones landed a hat-trick for Rangers and Phil Hall scored the fourth.
