In an evenly-contested first half, both sides made a number of chances in this Premier League clash but the final touch in front of goal eluded them, meaning it was scoreless at the break.

It was a different story in the second session when ‘Quins broke the deadlock with just two minutes on the clock.

Mossley were on the back foot and an infringement in their circle saw the award of a penalty stroke to the hosts. However, stopper Ben McMillan produced an excellent save to keep the Newtownabbey side in contention.

Mossley’s endeavour paid off when Matthew Sullivan brought them level with seven minutes remaining. But the comeback, and chance of claiming points from the match, was short-lived as ‘Quins netted twice on the counter-attack in the closing stages.

Elsewhere, Ross McIvor found the net as Mossley 2nd XI fell to a 2-1 defeat at home to Kilkeel 2nd XI.

The 3rd XI drew 3-3 against Portadown 2nd XI thanks to strikes from Jason Hill, John Young and Ian Creighton. The 4th XI clinched a 3-2 win on the road at Newry 3rd XI with Peter Farr (two) and John Young grabbing the goals. There was no such joy for the 5th XI as they fell to a 4-0 defeat at Ballymena.

Meanwhile, Mossley Ladies II lost 3-2 to Queen’s III. Zoë Tisdale opened the scoring for the Glade girls. Queen’s hit back with three goals.

Emma Downey pulled one back for the visitors but the students held on for the win.
