Maybin's good form continues

BALLYCLARE golfer Gareth Maybin's great start to his first season on the European Tour continued last week at the Johnnie Walker Classic in Perth, Australia.

Maybin easily made the cut with rounds of four under par 68 and two under par 70 to leave him at six under par just outside the top twenty.

On the Saturday, Gareth moved back into contention with another four under par 68 and well placed to make a challenge during the final round on Sunday.

However it was not to be as Gareth slipped out of contention with a two over par 74 and ended up in a tie for 36th spot. However he still stays in 19th place in the Race to Dubai and 84th ranked in the world.

New Zealand amateur Danny Lee, who grabbed four birdies in the last six holes to win the Johnnie Walker Classic by one shot, became the youngest player ever to win a European Tour event at the age of 18 years 213 days.
