A 5k personal best for Murray at parkrun event

Ballyclare’s County Antrim Harriers were in action in Belfast, Ballymena, Ards and Limavady this week.

At Saturday’s parkrun 5k time-trials, Christine Murray and Greg Hopkins opted for the early start at Victoria Park, with Murray clinching a pleasing event personal best with 21:21, and Hopkins cruising around in a more sedate 28:38.

At the Waterworks parkrun Heather White clocked 22:07, followed by Randall Smyth with another pb of 23:26. Irene Downey finished in 24:59 and Grace Startin in 26:20.

At the Ballymena Ecos parkrun Glenn Smart led the club home with a well deserved 21:07 (pb), followed by wife Louise in 22:19, with Lisa Barrett not far behind in 24:00 with Eileen Stewart clocking 29:00. Surprise move of the day was the return, after a long sabbatical, of Ricky Mason, who was just pleased to reach the finish line with a time of 32:22.

At the more competitive Ards Half Marathon on Friday evening it was Claire Oliphant who led the way for the club in a commendable 1:53:41, holding off fellow members Nigel Snoddy (1:55:19) who was making his half marathon debut, and Bob Carson (1:55:37).

At the Limavady Round the Bridges 10-Mile Race on Thursday the club was represented by Louise Smart, Glenn Smart, Lisa Barrett and Irene Downey, who made the long trip to a well-organised event, recording times of 1:15:34, 1:21:47, 1:22:23 and 1:23:29 respectively.
