BALLYCLARE Ladies retained their Senior 1 status with an emphatic win in their relegation play-off with Grosvenor Ladies on Monday.
The damage was done in the first half at Deramore Sports Complex, where Sue Dickey’s girls were three up at the break, before going on to complete a 4-2 win.
Defender Emma Patterson, who recently picked up the 1st XI Player of the Year award, opened the scoring from a well rehearsed penalty corner routine.
Soon afterwards Kerrie Bell doubled the lead, and confidence soared when Vikki Milligan drilled in the third.
The Senior 2 side threatened to make a game of it by reducing the deficit, but Ballyclare skipper Dickey restored her side’s three-goal advantage with the best strike of the evening after a superb solo run.
Grosvenor continued to battle right to the end and were rewarded with a second goal, but Ballyclare had too much for them.
“We were very apprehensive about this trip to Belfast, but Emma Patterson’s opening strike settled the nerves and after that we had the edge,” said Lorraine Ashcroft.
“When Grosvenor did attack, our defence was sound and our keeper Claire Grills pulled off several fine saves. But, overall we were deserved winners.”
