Mossley Hockey Club is set to host the Irish Under-16 and Under-18s Boys’ Interprovincial tournament next month.
It’s another coup for The Glade club after it staged a women’s international series featuring teams from Scotland, Wales and Canada in July.
Twelve matches have been scheduled for the annual competition which will see the cream of up-and-coming talent in the Irish game show off their skills.
It’s the first time the Interpros have been held at Mossley and club chairman, Trevor Lorimer, is delighted: “The ladies’ internationals were very successful and I think on the back of that, Ulster Hockey and Irish Hockey realised we could host such an event.
“Good hockey is always welcomed at Mossley and the Under-16s and 18s is a great show to put on.”
He added: “The club has worked very hard to put the facilities that are there now in place. Now we are seeing the fruition of our hard work in securing the ladies’ series and the Interprovincial series.”
Reacting to the news the club tweeted: ‘The U16 and U18 Boys’ Interpros will be held at The Glade 22-24 Nov. This is a great competition and we are very pleased to host it. #MHC’
Newtownabbey Borough Council added its backing on its official Twitter page: ‘Another gr8 (great) event comin’ this way. @MossleyHockey’.
The three-day competition begins with Ulster sides at both levels facing back-to-back games against Muster and Leinster on the opening day.
More hockey inside.
