The Carrick and District Pool League celebrates its 20th anniversary this year and the highlight is the ‘Festival of Pool’ event, to being staged at Nortel Social Club from Saturday, January 25 to Sunday, February 2. It climaxes with the Northern Ireland Pool Association’s Interleague events.

The local league attracts teams from across the Carrick and Newtownabbey boroughs.

It all began yesterday with a five-a-side competition, with some of the proceeds due to be going to the charity ‘Life After Loss’; the remainder was set to be paid out in prize money.

An open handicapped tournament takes place today (Sunday) from 1 pm.

Come the 27th, it will be Money Monday when the 12 tables will be available for Money Match challenges, with a 7:30pm start.

The flagship competition takes place on Tuesday with the League Individuals. Will reigning champion Trevor Whiteside see off the stiff opposition in defence of his crown?

The following evening an Open Scotch Doubles night is planned (7:30 pm), with a practice night on Thursday.

The Seniors, Ladies, Masters, U18s and U23s Individual events are planned for Friday.

On February 1 and 2 the League hosts the prestigious Northern Ireland Pool Association Interleague Competitions.

Players from leagues across Northern Ireland will converge to battle it out to be crowned NI Champions.
