Northern Ireland’s netball team, captained by Larne Grammar PE teacher Hannah Willis, are taking part in their first-ever Commonwealth Games.
After defeats to Malawi, Jamaica and New Zealand, they claimed their first success - an historic 61-40 triumph over Saint Lucia at the SECC on Monday.
Noleen Lennon scored 32 goals from 35 attempts to help Northern Ireland record its maiden victory in women’s team sport at a Commonwealth Games.
Jordanstown native Willis tweeted: “First win of the Commonwealth Games!!! Feels good!! #time2shine #feelinghappy #netballni.”
The win will no doubt give the girls a real boost in confidence as they focus on today’s encounter with host nation Scotland (July 30).
