A local cyclist has been crowned Amateur Male Champion at an event held recently in London.

Nick Ryles, who is an employee at Chain Reaction Cycles, was victorious in the SuperFinals of the UK StreetVelodrome Series in July.

The keen cyclist got the chance to represent Northern Ireland in the finals, which were held in front of Buckingham Palace, after winning Round 4 of the series in Ballyclare back in June.

The event saw thousands of spectators enjoy the world’s most accessible cycle sport and the climax to the televised UK Pro/Am Series.

The finals, hosted by Prudential RideLondon, brought together the best amateur competitors to race alongside professional racers, who competed in the series representing the various regions the tour visited.

The Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Cllr John Scott, commented: “This is a fantastic achievement and the council is extremely proud and delighted for Nick.”
