Greenisland Golf Club have taken advantage of their home matches to claim a strong lead in the Tom McAllister Section of the Isaac Agnew Mercedes-Benz East Antrim League.
Greenisland are undefeated in their first three matches, as is Hilton Templepatrick Golf Club who are second. Defending champions Carrickfergus Golf Club sit in third place in the early stages of this year’s league.
Cairndhu Golf Club secured a good home win in their first match to top the Jack Ross Section, with Galgorm only a point behind after two matches.
This week sees a local derby between Burnfield House and Greenacres, with Greenisland away to Ballyclare. Hilton are away to Larne. The top four in the Jack Ross League will go head-to-head this week with Cairndhu away to Galgorm Castle, and City of Belfast set to visit Whitehead.
Meanwhile. members of Ballyclare Golf Club’s Ladies’ Section took part in the Mry Peters Trust Competition on Thursday, May 16. Rebecca McConnell’s 38 points meant she topped a field of 47 ladies, edging past Fiona Wylie who pipped Gayle Smith and Hilda Ferris to the runners-up spot on a better back nine.
Larne Ladies were also competing in the Mary Peters Trust Stableford Competition on Friday. The scoring was close and the
winner with 37 points was Debbie McNabb. Katy Baird (36 points) was runner-up and Ann McDowell took third place (36 points) Debbie and Rebecca will now represent their respective clubs on Finals’ Day at Massereene Golf Club on August 27.
Tomorrow (May 24) sees the Peggy Nelson Stroke Competition take place at Larne GC. Ladies who wish to play should place their names on the timesheet by 7pm on Thursday, May 23.
