In the Senior 4 top of the table clash, a solitary Natalie Cahoon strike shattered Instonians Ladies’ unbeaten record and enhanced Parkview Ladies’ promotion prospects.

The 1-0 win in Ballyclare on Friday evening leaves the Doagh outfit in second spot behind the city girls. They are five points adrift, but have two precious games in hand and their undefeated record remains intact.

The league leaders came to George Avenue hoping to extend their eight-point lead against their main title challengers but in the opening quarter they were forced to defend against strong surges forward by Jenna Maxwell and Toni Smallwood.

Tammy Gamble’s girls continued to have territorial advantage, but were unable to convert possession in to goals in a scoreless first half in which home goalie Maimie Graham was seldom troubled.

The game exploded into life when Cahoon broke the deadlock six minutes into the second session following a goalmouth melee.

The title favourites immediately upped the tempo and a tough physical battle ensued, during which a frustrated Instonians player was sin-binned.

“The girls have taken a major step towards bouncing straight back to Section 3 with this win against the top team,” said Parkview’s Kathy Morrison. “Winning this six-pointer means Instonians are now five points ahead, but we could overhaul them if we win our two games in hand.”
