European Tour player Gareth Maybin hosts his annual charity pro-am at Ballyclare Golf Club on Friday.
Also taking part in the Martin Contract Services sponsored event is Challenge Tour golfer Gareth Shaw and Belfast’s Damian Mooney, who made a hole-in-one at this year’s Irish Open.
Ballyclare GC professional Colin Lyttle told the Times: “We’re going to have 21 teams of four. It’s a charity event with Gareth (Maybin) heading the day. We also have Gareth Shaw coming to play, who did well in the Irish Open.
“We are expecting a good day. Last year’s event was really well supported and we have got quite a few local companies who have helped sponsor the day.”
For Maybin, it’s a chance for him to show what he can do on home turf after competing at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championships in Scotland at last weekend.
Among the highlights for Maybin this year was a share of fifth place at the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open after a final round 71 (-1).
The 32-year-old finished -14 for the tournament, held at Castle Stuart in July. A sensational score of 64 (-8), which included eight birdies and an eagle on the par-five sixth, helped him on his way.
The Ballyclare man also clinched a top-10 finish at the French Open and played at the Open Championship at Muirfield.
