Newcomer Jim impresses at five-mile event

EAST ANTRIM Harriers runner Jim Davison impressed during last week’s Wilson Cup club handicap race and was first to cross the finish line in Ballyclare.

The historic race uses a route from Parkgate via Doagh and was won by Jim, a relative newcomer to running who has been going from strength to strength in the last two years, with his time of 31:32.

Jim, the club’s new Mens’ vce-captain, has been running half-marathons this year and continues to achieve personal bests thanks to dedicated training.

New East Antrim Harriers Mens’ Captain Wesley Wallace, who trained well for the Berlin Marathon, and has been covering a large number of miles in training, was second home with 34:56.

Club stalwart Norman Caughey achieved third with 35;42 while Jennifer Ashby, as always, ran well to achieve fourth in 32:23.

The fastest time was recorded by former club chairman Sam Crawford, who covered the distance in 26:08. Close behind was Colin Davidson, Colin James and Andy Little who finished in a close group between 28 minutes and 29 minutes.

East Antrim Harriers welcome new members. The club meets at its Harrier Way clubhouse in Ballyclare most Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7pm.
