IT’S official. Andy Arbuthnot’s Rockers Pool Team are the new Carrick and District Pool League champions.
Needing only a point to secure the title, they travelled down to Barbarians and sealed the deal with an 8-6 win. Shaun McAlister won the all-important frame on the night, but it has been a huge team effort over a long season and the Whiteabbey RBL team are very worthy champions.
Rockers will go on to represent the league in the N.I.P.A Champions of Champions event in mid-June along with cup winners, HM & H.
In other matches Greenisland consolidated their push for the runners-up spot with a comfortable 11-3 win over Warriors, Spartans won the final three frames to get a draw at Jonny Thompson’s Scorpions and Castle overcame Eastway 8-6.
In the battle of the Trojans, Whitehead had to win the final two frames to secure a draw. There were hat-tricks heroes on both teams; Tristan Scott-Heyes for the hosts and Rab McMaw for the Monkstown team, as both sides kept up their reputation as draw specialists.
HM&H eased to an 11-3 win at home to Alpha, whilst Cowboys recorded a 14-0 win over Jolly Beggar. Teddy Bears had a bye.
