IT was almost a complete whiteout at the weekend for hockey teams in the Sixmile Valley area, with only one of the five teams from Ballyclare Ladies and Parkview Ladies beating the frosty conditions.

The top casualty was the Irish Hockey Trophy clash between the Ballyclare senior side and Rathgar which was scheduled to be staged at Foundry Lane.

With no Senior League Section 1 fixtures scheduled for this weekend, Suzanne Dickey’s girls may be able to rearrange this Cup tie for Saturday, but they await a decision from hockey headquarters.

Zoe Hunter’s second-team had been hoping to pick up Junior League Section 2 points at The Dub at the expense of Queen’s II, but this one also fell foul of the adverse weather conditions.

However, Julie Cooke’s 3rd XI did manage to fulfil their Junior League Section 7 fixture with Holywood II in County Down.

The ‘Clare girls went into this one as favourites against the bottom-placed team, but Holywood ran out 1-0 winners.

Club stalwart, Miriam Weatherup, had to don the pads in the absence of Stephanie McIlroy, and had no chance with the shot that clinched the points, while Kirsty Shanks also starred in defence.

The Parkview girls fared little better when they had to postpone their home Senior League Section 3 fixture against PSNI Ladies, and their 2nd XI’s Junior League Section 6 clash with Newcastle II.

This weekend’s fixtures:

Carrick II v Parkview

Knock II v Ballyclare II (Junior Cup)

Owls III Ballyclare III
