MOSSLEY REACH QUARTER FINALS

Mossley 1sts XI 3 NICS 1sts XI 2

This Irish Senior Cup fixture postponed from two weeks ago saw Mossley play host to Senior one side Civil Service at The Glade,

Service are currently going well in Senior one and recently defeated current league leaders North Down 5–0. They would be no pushover and in Aaron Gill they have a lethal striker who has notched up over 40 goals this season.

Mossley were without the services of veteran defender Alvie Patterson (broken thumb) and right half Mark Moreland (hamstring).

Both teams looked a little nervous at the start and Mossley were caught napping when Gill popped up after only 3 minutes to give Service the lead from a sweetly struck reverse shot, going in off a post.

Their lead was short lived however because one minute later Mossley got back on level terms when Andy Coulter planted a drag flick into the back of the Service nets.

Mossley were finding it difficult to get a rhythm and as a result Service were finding gaps and causing them problems. Both Ricky Lee and Simon Todd came close for Mossley and at the other end Dale McNeill made a good save from an Aaron Gill penalty corner.

Half time - Mossley 1, NICS 1.

For two seasons Mossley defender Ryan Brennan was out with a knee injury and only returned to first team action at the start of this season. Today he was in top form as he hit a sweet slap pass into the Service circle for Simon Todd to latch onto, swivel and hit a screamer into the top corner leaving the visiting keeper stranded.

A few minutes later Brennan was at it again when, after some great defensive work, he instigated the move that led to Mossley's 3rd goal as Todd again got onto the end of a great pass from him before sending a clinical strike into the back of the Service goal.

Mossley were now in the driving seat, but Service were not for rolling over. Back they came to put Mossley under pressure and on 26 minutes they got their reward when Ross Anderson pulled one back following a pass from Aaron Gill, to make it 3 – 2.

Both teams exchanged further opportunities to score but to no avail. Mossley now play host to top Leinster side Pembroke Wanderers next Saturday at The Glade at 2:30pm.

Full time - Mossley 3, NICS 2.

Mossley Man of the Match was Ryan Brennan.
