Newtownabbey’s Aaron Wright has extended his lead to 22 points over Caolan Irwin in the 125/250 production Irish Championship after winning both races at the recent Mondello Park meeting.
Torrential rain meant Saturday’s schedule was abandoned after qualifying and both races being run the following day.
Starting from second on the grid, 13-year-old Wright had a good battle with Sam Lyons in the opening laps before moving into the lead. He extended his advantage to seven seconds over Lyons by the flag.
It dried up for race two which Wright led from turn one to the flag. “Things are going well this season and I really enjoyed Mondello - especially as I won,” he said.
