Floodlight grant for Ophir RFC

Ophir Rugby Club has been awarded £8,663 to improve its floodlights at its Magowan Park home.

The Mallusk-based outfit is among 32 groups across Northern Ireland awarded grants totalling over £732,000 from the Big Lottery Fund’s Energy Efficient Venues programme.

Ophir boasts a number of junior and senior teams who use the pitch and clubhouse for training up to four nights a week.

Chairman Trevor Harris said: “We have 20 floodlights and the old fittings were very inefficient. The lights were being used three or four nights every week as we have a lot of local teams using the pitches, so it was costing us a lot of money to keep them going.

“By making the floodlights more energy efficient, we hope to save money which will be put straight back into the running costs of the club.”
