Parkview pick up a point in Dromore

Dromore Ladies 1st XI 2 Parkview Ladies 1st XI 2

JOY HARGIE celebrated her return to the Parkview Ladies ranks by scoring one of her side's goals in a 2-2 draw in Dromore.

After having been side-lined for several months with a back complaint Joy made a triumphant return, and made a significant contribution to her side's fine performance in taking a point off their promotion hopeful opponents.

After trailing in the early stages the Doagh girls hit the front after the interval through Zoe Purdy, only for the home side to claw back to level terms, to secure a division of the spoils.

Dromore were fortunate to get anything from this Senior League Section 2 fixture, when they had to thank their goalkeeper for saving a penalty flick with time running out.

Parkview started promisingly at Ferris Park with Natasha McWilliams drilling the ball in to the side-netting, but the County Down girls were first on to the scorecard when the ball was switched quickly from left wing to right, before Lynne Mehaffey was well beaten with a low shot in to the bottom corner of the net.

During Dromore's best spell Lynne had to make saves from three penalty corners, but gradually the visitors began to push forward and were rewarded on the half hour, when Joy Hargie equalised from a rebound after Karen Barr's initial effort had crashed against the post with the keeper well beaten.

After the interval Parkview had territorial advantage for a time during which Denise Doherty and Karen Barr had efforts from penalty corners saved, but from one of them the ball was cleared out to Zoe Purdy, who skilfully rounded the goalie in a one against one confrontation to forge ahead in the 45th minute.

Ten minutes later it was all square again when Dromore equalised from another penalty corner, and play continued to fluctuate from end to end with both goalies proving their expertise.

Parkview Ladies: L Mehaffey; D Doherty, C Dundee, E Stubbs (C), J McGookin; L Chalmers, K Barr, S Weir, K Erskine; Z Purdy, N McWilliams. Subs: C Morrow, J Hargie.

According to the captain Ballyclare had plenty of possession but were unable to penetrate a solid city defence, while Tracey Hagan, Emma Alexander and Lauren Henry impressed for the Doagh girls.

SECONDS

Karen Manson's 2nd XI also returned a losing card having gone down 3-0 to North down III in a Junior League Section 3 fixture.
