ONLY two of Ballyclare Rugby Club’s four senior teams were in action last weekend, but each returned a winning scorecard.
Perhaps top billing should go to the 4th XV who toppled leaders Portadown IV in a Junior League Section 6 clash.
The County Armagh lads came to The Cloughan with a 100 per cent record, but they had to eat humble pie when they finished on the wrong end of a 16-10 score-line.
The locals did it the hard way when they allowed the visitors to establish a 10-0 lead at the break, but after the turn-around it was the hosts who were in command.
Prop forward Darren Montgomery opened his side’s account with a try, and later Trevor Clarke doubled the lead in similar fashion.
John Wasson was unable to add the extras in either case, but he made sure of victory by slotting over two penalties, to give the hosts their first win of the season.
Man of the Match: Mark Wright, scrum-half.
The Second XV thrashed CIYMS II 40-0 at The Cloughan in a Junior League Section 1 fixture.
The star of the show was Craig Wallace who crossed the visiting line on no fewer than four occasions, to be top scorer with 20 points.
The half-back partnership of Adam Wardrop and Robert Smith had too much guile for their opposite numbers, and each managed a score, as did impressive hooker, Tony Turner.
Only one of the seven touchdowns was converted by Wardrop, while Chris Gillan contributed a penalty.
With Dailly jumping well, Ballyclare dominated the line-outs, and they also had the edge in the scrums, while Stuart Cusack impressed at centre.
Man of the Match; Craig Wallace, wing forward.
This weekend’s fixtures: 2nd XV v Dungannon III, away; 4th XV v Ophir II, home.
