SNOOKER CLUB POCKETS SWAIL

THE Bridge Snooker Club in Glengormley was given a boost this week with the news that Joe Swail is to become its resident professional.

The two-time World Championship semi-finalist will also represent the club in the first ever Northern Ireland Cue Sports Players Association (NICSPA) NI Snooker League sponsored by Cadogan Keelan Westall Insurance Brokers which was set to begin on Tuesday.

Clubs from all over the country will be competing for the inaugural NI Club Championship and, with Swail on board, The Bridge will be entering two teams in pursuit of the league title.

Speaking to the Times, Swail, a former Irish Champion, explained why he has joined the Antrim Road club.

"I have been practicing at home for the last year and a half and unfortunately my results haven't been good. So I really felt I needed to get out and practice in a club environment which I always enjoyed when I lived in Manchester and also when I lived in Belfast.

"I came along to The Bridge and I really liked the people and the atmosphere so I asked about getting something arranged. When I was practicing at my house I knew I needed to make the change and get back into a club to do something different to change my form.

"I found myself going a bit stale. Hopefully this will bring a bit more discipline into my game. I want to feel as if I am going out to work and so this is the perfect environment."

Swail, nicknamed 'the Outlaw', said he hopes to extend invites to fellow big-name professionals to come and practice with him at the club.
