THE coaching team at Templepatrick Cricket Club have finalised their programme of youth and senior practice sessions for the 2013 season.
Youth coaching sessions, led by the club’s Cricket Development Officer Andy McCrea, will run during May, June, the last two weeks of July and the first three weeks of August.
Andy, winner of last year’s ECB UK and European Cricket Coach of the Year award, commented: “All sessions will take place at our state-of-the-art practice facilities at The Cloughan, Ballyclare. We have one of the largest teams of qualified cricket coaches in Northern Ireland, with a level three coach, four level two coaches, three level one coaches and numerous other volunteers, so we really can offer quality opportunities to our members, with each age group having a level two coach working with them.
“Practice nights for boys and girls in the P1 - P4 age group will start on May 1 and continue each Wednesday evening, weather permitting, between 6.30pm and 7.30pm. The P5 - P7 boys and girls will also practice on Wednesday nights from May 1, between 6.30pm and 8pm.
“A new addition this year is that girls in the Year 8 - Year 11 age group will meet on Thursday evenings from May 2 between 5.30pm and 6.30pm. They will be coached by Active Communities Coach Michael Hingston and our new Australian player/coach, Warren Clunes.
“The boys’ Under-13 team for Years 8 and 9 will practice on Monday evenings from May 6 between 6.45pm and 8.45pm under the tutelage of Robert Smith and Jay Hunter, while Phil Kernaghan and Simon Beattie will take the boys’ Under-15 team sessions on Tuesdays from May 7 from 6.45pm - 8.45pm.”
He continued: “We’re already busy with our indoor nets programme at Sixmile Leisure Centre, but outdoor senior practice and coaching sessions for the Under -17 age group will get under way at The Cloughan on April 23, continuing each Tuesday and Thursday between 6.45pm and 9pm.
“Everyone at the club is looking forward to the new season and the challenges it will bring, and we are determined to offer all our players, from four years old right through to our adult sides, the best possible coaching opportunities so that they’ll be ready for a great summer of cricket.”
