Three is the magic number for 4th Newtownabbey's Trimble

DAVID Trimble was the star of the show as 4th Newtownabbey hosted its end of season awards dinner at Corr's Corner .

After winning division 2C in the 2007/08 season, 4th Newtownabbey’s return to 2B was not going to be easy having lost some of their top players. But as 4th have shown down the years they are able to rebuild and replace players. This was the case again, as despite being bottom of the league until Christmas, they were able to go on a fantastic run to finish joint 6th with rivals Grange, who had been 23 points ahead at one stage. Now with a settled squad, along with a few additions in the summer, manager Brian Dickson will be hoping to push on further up the league table. It was also a great year on a personal level for new skipper David Trimble, who for the first time in the club’s history scooped Player of the Year, Players’ Player of the Year and Top Scorer with 24 goals.

In his last year as the B Team manager, Stevie Robinson delivered a farewell speech but thankfully will be staying at the club in some capacity. The B’s narrowly missed out on a second promotion but can be proud of their achievements. Top scorer was claimed by Andy Hair who notched an impressive 16 goals in his second season at the club. The other awards went to the two veterans. Davey McNett won Player of the Year and Players Player to the ever reliable Sean McMahon.

In the C team Paul James scooped Players’ Player, and Player of the Year and Stevie Brannagh won top goalscorer. Despite injuries throughout the season the C Team battled hard every week and will come back stronger next time.
