Newtownabbey pupils learning to ‘give their brain a break’ during challenging times
Pupils at Ashgrove Primary School have been learning how to relax and deal with anxiety during the current uncertainty the Covid-19 pandemic has created.
Commenting on the initiative, a spokesperson for the Glengormley-based school said: “Life can be very challenging in these uncertain times and Ashgrove Primary see the need to help their children learn coping mechanisms to deal with anxious feelings.
“All children take part in mindfulness lessons throughout the school week. They learn to focus on their breath and how to ‘give their brain a break.’
“Within the safety of their ‘bubble’, these P7 children are learning how to massage their peers as a way of learning to relax.
“They know to ask permission before massaging their friend which in turn helps to educate children on ‘safe touch.’
“P7 look forward to learning new massage strokes every week!”
