War veteran at Mossley Mill for Covid-19 vaccination
A 99-year-old war veteran was among those receiving the Covid-19 vaccination in Newtownabbey this week.
Alex Johnston attended Tuesday’s clinic organised by Glengormley Practice at The Museum, Mossley Mill.
The GP practice, with the support of Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council, last week commenced its jab programme at the Carnmoney Road location.
Carol Andrews, practice manager, explained: “After much deliberation about how best to deliver the programme, we decided that the best option would be to set up a Covid vaccination centre off-site. We approached Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council and asked for their help in identifying a suitable venue.
“After visiting Mossley Mill, we agreed that The Museum would make a perfect vaccination centre - plenty of space to social distance, ample car parking with reserved disabled spaces, several access points which permit one way in, one way out, areas suitable for re-design to allow for a treatment room, numerous vaccination bays and areas for office use.
“We are delighted that this collaborative working arrangement between the practice and the council has resulted in the successful delivery, to date, of two Covid vaccination clinics to our patient population.”
GP practices have been tasked with delivering the Covid vaccination programme for their patient populations in line with the PHA (Public Health Agency) cohorts:
All those 80 years and over and frontline health and social care workers;
All those 75 years of age and over;
All those 70 years of age and over;
Adults who are clinically extremely vulnerable (shielding);
Those aged 65 years and over;
Adults aged under 65 years with long-term clinical conditions;
those aged 50-64 will be offered it at a later date.
Carol added: “The practice will continue to provided all vaccinations at The Museum for our patients as we move through the Covid vaccination cohorts as instructed by the Public Health Agency. Patients will be contacted by the practice when vaccines become available.
“We also plan to deliver the Extended Flu Programme there on Saturday 23 January 9am-1pm, which is now available to all patients aged 50-64 years of age who have not already had a flu vaccine. Appointments can be made by contacting the practice.”
