A record to be sniffed at

THE Chimney Corner Hotel will be the venue for a huge wine tasting world record attempt this Sunday, November 20.

Participants in 20 countries across the globe, including Japan, New Zealand and Ireland, will raise a glass at 11am GMT for the event organised by wine merchants, Vicomte Bernard de Romanet.

And it is hoped that over 25,000 people will sniff, taste and spit a selection of fine wines to smash the current record.

Local organiser Brian Luke said: “It’s a bit of fun really, but it helps to get people interested in fine wines.

“The current record is 25,000 and there is a lot of preparation and rules to go through to properly verify that we have done it, but we are confident that we can break the record.”

To complete the record, those attending will sample three different wines - an Italian red, a Californian rose and a French white, provided by the wine company.

They will each receive a free bottle of wine and a special commemorative certificate to mark the occasion.

Participants must be over 18 and arrive at the Chimney Corner, 630 Antrim Road, for 10.30am to take part.
