THE new man at the helm of St Mary’s on the Hill parish has vowed to build on the solid foundations laid by his predecessor.
Father John Forsythe was appointed parish priest at the church in November following the retirement of Father Dan Whyte.
And already it has been a very busy, but enjoyable period for the priest.
He said: “I am very much the new man in town and it is a challenge to get to know the people and build relationships, but everyone has been very welcoming.
“The level of community involvement in the church is something that has impressed and amazed me.”
Father Forsythe joins the local parish after 14 years as parish priest at Christ the Redeemer, Lagmore in Lisburn.
Before that he was based at St Patrick’s in Knock and has a background in education having been a schools inspector for the Diocese of Down and Connor.
