CHILDREN from Ballyhenry Primary School took part in a special ‘School Around the Corner’ service in Ballyhenry Presbyterian Church on Sunday, June 17.
Led by Miss Collins and Miss Smith, the school choir sang a number of pieces including: Gonna Lay Down My Sword and Shield, He is Lord, From the Top of My Head, and I’ve Got the Joy. Parents and friends from the local community joined with Ballyhenry’s regular Sunday evening congregation for what was a really enjoyable evening.
After the service a short reception was held to acknowledge the retirement of Mr Bob Greer, who served on the Boards of Governors at Ballyhenry Primary and Glengormley High School for over 30 years.
Rev Niall Lockhart, Minister of Ballyhenry Presbyterian, was joined by Mr Robert Smith, Principal of Ballyhenry Primary, and Mr Lex Hayes, Principal of Glengormley High, in paying tribute to Bob for his commitment to local education.
Referring to Bob as “a true gentleman”, Mr Smith thanked him for his role as Chairman of the Primary School Governors dating back to the early 1980s. Mr Hayes paid warm tribute to Bob’s gifts of friendship, wisdom, integrity and encouragement in his past role as Vice-Chair of the High School Board.
Commending the ongoing links between the church and local schools, Rev Lockhart concluded proceedings, adding personal words of appreciation for Bob’s practical Christian faith grounded in service to the local community.
