A driver had a lucky escape after a bomb was discovered under his car in March 1988.

The bomb was discovered under the man’s car as he made his way along the Antrim Road near Sandyknowes roundabout.

The bomb was noticed under the car by another motorist.

The area in Glengormley was sealed off for around two hours while Army experts defused the device.

It was found to contain one and a half pounds of explosives.

Traffic was disrupted in the Glengormley area and the M2 was closed to vehicles in both directions.

A spokesman from the RUC said that neither the owner of the car or any of his family had any connections to the security forces.
