A local councillor claimed that there was a number of inadequate roads in the area in September 1985.
DUP representative David Neill blamed a lack of foresight by the Department Of the Environment for the poor roads in the borough.
“The whizz kids who planned 10 years ago to spend millions on developing Craigavon and Antrim would not listen when this council told them how much was going to happen in Newtownabbey, and this is the result,” he said.
Mr Neill said that there were inadequate roads in the area including the Manse Road and Doagh Road.
He was prompted to address the issue after plans for a proposed housing development on the Jordanstown Road were approved.
