The 16th Newtownabbey Boys’ Brigade Company is preparing to hold a series of 40th anniversary celebrations early next year.

Formed in February 1972, the Company, which is connected to Belfast City Mission in Rathcoole, has been going strong for four decades.

Officers and members, from past and present, will mark the special occasion with a series of events during February 2012.

“We have a lot to thank God for over the past 40 years, Christian fellowship, friendships, camps, weekends away, sports activities, band and other memorable visits and occasions. We hope as many past members of the Company as possible will be able to join with us at the various events planned,” said the Company’s Leader in Charge, Jim Holmes.

Among the events lined up to mark the anniversary are a celebration dinner at the Templeton Hotel, Templepatrick on February 11 and a 40th anniversary parade through Rathcoole and a church service at Belfast City Mission the following day.

The Company is also hoping to organise a 5 or 6-a-Side indoor football competition at the Soccer Shed in Ballyclare, as well as an anniversary golf competition. Dates for both events have yet to be finalised.

Anyone wanting to join in the celebrations should email 16.newtownabbeybb.40@gmail.com or check out ‘16th Newtownabbey at 40 1971-2011’ on Facebook.

Encouraging all past members and officers to get in touch, Mr Holmes added: “On the Saturday evening of the dinner we hope to have records, photos and movies of the past on show. We look forward to hearing from past members and meeting up with them again.”
