A CARNMONEY mother and daughter will be taking part in the Action Cancer Moonlight Walk, this Friday (June 15).
Pamela and Sarah McCafferty have signed up for this year’s 10 mile walk from Shaw’s Bridge in Belfast for the first time.
Pamela said: “Two of our close friends have recently been diagnosed with breast cancer and are currently undergoing treatment.
“By taking part in the MoonLight Walk we hope to raise money for Action Cancer to ensure women like my friends can be supported through their journey.
“My Mother has also been affected by cancer - fortunately she fought against it and survived, however my Mother in-law lost her battle to ovarian cancer three years ago.
“Cancer affects everyone and it is important to do anything we can to raise money to help save lives.
“I would encourage both men and women to give it a go and sign up for the MoonLight Walk.”
The Moonlight Walk starts from Cooke Rugby Club at Shaw’s Bridge at 9pm and the 10 mile walk route takes participants into Belfast city centre.
Last year over 1,000 participants took part and all are encouraged to dress in pink in fancy dress to help raise awareness of the charity’s services.
Registration for the Moonlight Walk is £20 and Action Cancer is encouraging participants to raise a minimum amount of £80 - the average cost of a mammogram.
Action Cancer is the only charity in Northern Ireland provides a free breast screening service for women aged 40 - 49 and over 70, complementing the NHS screening programme which calls women aged 50 - 70. This service is funded entirely by public donations.
To sign up go to the Action Cancer website or call 9080 3344.
