Tesco is offering Newtownabbey residents the chance to name the street that will form the entrance to the redeveloped Northcott shopping complex in Glengormley, which is due to open its doors in November.

The new multi-million pound store, which will be renamed Sandyknowes Shopping Centre, will be over 60,000 sq/ft in size and incorporate lots of food and non-food departments, including electricals, toys, clothing, computers and home entertainment. The site will also have a petrol filling station and more than 500 parking spaces, but there is one thing it’s still missing - a name for the new access road.

A Tesco spokesperson commented: “Would you like to have the name of a famous local immortalised as a street name, or perhaps you feel that an old townland name is being lost? Is there an historical event that you feel should be remembered, or is there simply a name that you feel would reflect the area well?

“If your idea is chosen, you could win a £100 Tesco voucher and take part in the official opening of the new store.”
