Ballyduff man held over pensioner attack

A BALLYDUFF man has been remanded in custody accused of breaking into a Doagh Road pensioner’s home and inflicting grievous bodily harm on him.

Christopher Mitchell, from Ballyfore Park, faces charges over the attack on a 72-year-old man last Saturday (May 5).

The elderly victim suffered a suspected broken ankle and cuts to his face during the assault in his home.

Mitchell is also charged with burglary, theft of two bottles of alcohol from property, and possession of class B drugs - namely herbal cannabis.

He was remanded in custody at Hydebank Young Offenders Centre following a brief hearing before Belfast Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, May 10, and is due to appear again via video link on June 7.
