Beverley residents slam move to open fast food outlet

PEOPLE living in the vicinity of Beverley Shops in Carnmoney have hit out at plans to open a fast food takeaway at the site.

A planning application, advertised late last month, proposes a change of use for the unit at 12a Beverley Road from a ‘launderette’ to fast food takeaway.

The dry cleaners closed several months ago and the unit has been lying empty since. But people living near the shops say they don’t want to see a hot food bar opening in the area.

A number of residents (pictured with local representatives) of Beverley Road and Fairview Road have already written to Planning Service objecting to the proposal, complaining that opening a fast food outlet would only exacerbate existing problems in the area such as anti-social behaviour and littering.

“We have enough problems here with youths hanging about the shops, also youths gathering in cars at night. We believe that a fast food takeaway would add to our already disturbed wellbeing as there would be extra traffic late at night and most certainly a lot more litter,” explains the residents’ letter of objection.
