MALLUSK Primary School and Mallusk Community Action Group have joined forces to launch a new book - Our Thoughts Go Back Again.
The publication, edited by Barry Macaulay and Aaron Davidson, marks the 75th anniversary of Mallusk Primary School and the 200th anniversary of the opening of the Roughfort National School. It is a revised and updated edition of the 1986 book, Our Thoughts Go Back, written by Mallusk Primary School’s former Headmaster, Michael Millar.
Community Action Group Chairman, Barry Macaulay explained: “As well as gaining an insight into the schools of yesteryear, readers will learn about the rich social and cultural history of the Mallusk, Hydepark and Roughfort area. From first hand accounts from pupils and residents past and present, and drawing on a range of original records and materials, they will learn about the ancient burial ground at Roughfort; the area’s central role in the United Irishman rebellion of 1798; the early mills and the families who owned them; the social and leisure pursuits of a bygone rural era and the famous sons and daughters who hail from this charming corner of County Antrim.”
Copies of the book are available now from Mallusk Primary School for a suggested minimum donation of £5. All proceeds will go to school funds.
