Burglars target Rathcoole pensioner

POLICE have issued an appeal for information following a burglary at the home of a Rathcoole pensioner on Monday afternoon (June 18).

Shortly after 1.20pm two men were seen leaving the 72-year-old’s house in the Carrnreagh Bend area of the estate. A number of items were stolen from the property, including a substantial sum of money.

It is understood the two men made their escape through the rear of the property and fled the scene in a black Ford Focus car.

One of the burglars is described as being around 6ft tall, of slim build and was wearing dark jeans and navy coat. The second man is described as being around 5ft 5ins tall, of stocky build, was wearing a green baseball cap, blue gloves, pale blue jeans, white trainers and had a rucksack on his back. Both men are believed to have had swarthy complexions.

Local community worker Phil Hamilton condemned the incident as “sickening” and appealed for anyone with information to contact the police.
