Mayor Thomas Hogg hosted a celebration evening at Mossley Mill recently for local businesses which completed the STAR business development programme.
The seven-month programme, which was funded by Newtownabbey Borough Council, was aimed at businesses in the professional services, tourism, hospitality and retail sectors.
A total of 22 businesses in the local area benefited from customised training and specialised one-to-one mentoring support, helping them to improve a number of aspects within their business including sales, marketing, merchandising and employee skills development.
An additional outcome of the programme saw 28 people obtain customer service training through the World Host Training Programme, with certificates being presented on the evening.
Speaking at the awards evening, Alderman Hogg commented: “This programme provided excellent training and skills development through one-to-one mentoring and tailored workshops. I commend the commitment shown by all the businesses who took part and had the desire to develop their business and enhance their competitiveness.
“The practical aspects of the programme have led to improvements in customer service and an ability to attract more customers. Not only do businesses and their employees benefit from this, but Newtownabbey as a whole develops a reputation for its excellence in customer service while also strengthening our town centres and helping them grow and prosper.”
