A CAPTAIN charged with crashing his ship while under the influence of alcohol has been released on bail to an address in Whiteabbey.
Miroslaw Pozniak was at the helm of a cargo ship which was in collision with a Stena passenger ferry in Belfast Lough on March 7. Both vessels were damaged in the collision, but no-one was injured.
The 55-year-old, who is Polish, has already pleaded guilty to the charge.
He was released on £500 bail and was made to surrender his passport and seaman’s card.
Mr Pozniak is due to appear again on April 24 at Downpatrick Crown Court.
