NEWTOWNABBEY Borough Council has confirmed that a new CCTV security camera will be operational in Glengormley by the beginning of next week (February 5).
The camera on Glebe Road West is being installed in a bid to stop trouble in the Church Road area at nights.
Residents have been plagued over the years by large numbers of youths gathering in the area to fight each other.
This week several people living in the area said they were bemused that the camera had not yet been switched on.
However, a spokeswoman for the council, which is responsible for the camera, said the camera would be up and running by next week.
Chair of Glengormley Community Group, Martine Andrews, said all residents in the area welcomed the new camera - the latest addition to the town’s CCTV network.
