Charity’s thanks for big walk turnout

Diabetes UK Northern Ireland has thanked everyone who turned up on Saturday, May 25 to take part in its Walk for Diabetes event in Newtownabbey.

The walk started at Hazelbank Park and was a great success, with everyone, including their canine friends, enjoying the morning sunshine.

Naomi Brown, fundraising manager for Diabetes UK Northern Ireland, said: “I would like to thank everyone who came along to support the event and helped raise vital funds for Diabetes UK.

“I would also like to thank the Newtownabbey Voluntary Group who helped organised the event and put so much effort into making it a success.”

Last year Walk in the Park events helped raise over £20,000 for Diabetes UK Northern Ireland and it is hoped the support from the Newtownabbey area could help to raise even more this year.

The charity said around 3,000 people in the Newtownabbey area are diagnosed with diabetes.

It’s thought another 10,00 people across Northern Ireland could have the condition and not yet know about it.
