Council considering creation of Ulster Scots trail

NEWTOWNABBEY Borough Council, in conjunction with the Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure, is exploring the possibility of opening up a trail of the area’s Ulster Scots heritage.

A feasibility study delivered to last Tuesday’s (May 15) Development Committee detailed the borough’s enormous wealth of Ulster Scots heritage.

And coupled with sites such as Sentry Hill, Mossley Mill and Monkstown Abbey it is thought the council and local hospitality industry could cash in with organised walking tours and historical events.

Newtownabbey representatives, along with officials from Carrick, Lisburn, Antrim and Larne will now be working together to deliver a proposal to the council.
