Council investigates bin sale allegations further

NEWTOWNABBEY Borough Council has confirmed that bosses at Mossley Mill are investigating claims that a council employee has been selling council bins for personal profit.

The investigation was sparked after emails and telephone calls were received by the local authority, alleging that a member of staff has been taking bins, which usually retail to ratepayers for around £40, and flogging them to acquaintances for £10 each.

“This allegation by a member of the public is being rigorously investigated. The matter is receiving attention at the highest level within the council and when the process is completed we will be responding to the member of the public and will update residents via the local press,” a council spokesperson said.
