Police are appealing for information following a distraction type burglary that occurred in the Carnmoney Road area of Glengormley.
Detailing the incident, a police spokesperson said: “Sometime between 2:30pm and 3pm on Saturday, March 11 a male called to the home of an elderly person claiming to be carrying out work for a neighbour.
“The male told the elderly resident that he needed access to the rear of her property to facilitate this work. Whilst the resident allowed the male access, other persons are believed to have entered the victims property in an attempt to steal.
“This male is described as white, aged between 30 and 40 years old and was approximately 5ft 9 inches in height. He is described as having fair to light brown short hair with stubble on his face. He wore a black coloured zip up jacket. It is believed the male made off from the area in a vehicle.”
The spokesperson added: “We are appealing for anyone with information who may have witnessed any suspicious activity in the area or have information about the incident to contact detectives at Antrim PSNI on 101, quoting 785 of March 11.
“Or, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
Local Policing Team officers in the Newtownabbey area are urging residents to be vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour immediately by calling 999 or 101.
